Carrying a local cinema legacy into a new dining and entertainment experience.
The Queen’s Picture House & Eatery is an upscale casual restaurant and boutique cinema located in Gibraltar’s historic Casemates Square.
Run by the family behind the original Queen’s Cinema, a much-loved local institution that operated for more than 50 years, the venue serves as a tribute to the cinema’s legacy whilst establishing itself as one of Gibraltar’s most unique dining experiences.

The Queen’s Cinema held a meaningful place in Gibraltarian society. For generations, it was part of local life, a constant in the memories of many Gibraltarians who grew up visiting the territory’s only cinema.
After the cinema closed and was later demolished, the family behind it began looking towards their next venture. The Queen’s Picturehouse & Eatery was created as a way to carry that legacy forward, not by recreating the old cinema, but by building a new dining and entertainment experience influenced by its rich past.
Our strategic work began by sitting with the family to understand the motivations behind the venture, the significance of the original cinema and the feeling they wanted to create for guests.
At the centre of those discussions was a desire to offer something different within Gibraltar’s hospitality landscape. With its location in Casemates Square and dual function as both a dining and entertainment venue, The Queen’s had the potential to feel transportive: a place that could give guests a sense of occasion while remaining relaxed enough for casual dining, drinks and social gatherings.
The identity was shaped by two key references: the original Queen’s Cinema and the Gatsby-esque interior direction of the new venue.
The colour palette draws from cinema interiors, red velvet curtains and warm theatrical lighting, balanced with cooler tones inspired by the venue’s decor. Typography was chosen to feel elegant and upmarket, supporting the atmosphere of the space without making it feel overly formal. The logomark takes inspiration from the crown that once appeared on the facade of the original Queen’s Cinema, carrying a recognisable piece of its history into the new venue.
Across menus, signage and photography, the brand brings the restaurant and boutique cinema together under one coherent identity.
At its core, the work was deeply meaningful to the Benatar family, giving them a way to carry the essence of the original Queen’s Cinema into their new venture.
Since opening, The Queen's has delivered on the experience it set out to create, establishing itself as a distinctive hospitality destination in Gibraltar, popular with locals and visitors alike.
